From the beginning of her college career Ingrid Wheeler knew that she wanted to help others.  With this goal in mind Ingrid focused on social work and mental health.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Psychology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  She continued her education and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Mental Health from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.


Ingrid is fluent in Spanish and has experience with individual, couple, family and group therapy for children, adolescents, adults and geriatric populations.  She also has experience in helping individuals struggling with mental health challenges, psychosis, substance abuse/dependence, personality disorders, self-harming behaviors, suicidal ideation, relationship conflicts, stress management and behavioral issues.  She previously worked with children, adolescents and adults on an inpatient psychiatric unit in addition to working with dual diagnosis and addictions in a substance abuse treatment center.  Ingrid has additional experience working with geriatric populations in a skilled nursing home setting.  She has received extensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy training, as well as having gained experience practicing cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

Ingrid grew up in a military family, traveling all over the world until 2000 when her family settled in Champaign.  The oldest of three children growing up in a bilingual and biracial household, Ingrid was constantly helping others, a desire she continues today.  She is happily married with a two children with a third child on the way.
